Project Update

The project is now complete and fully open to traffic.

What is this project going to accomplish?

The project will reconstruct Alder Street from Merriam to Palouse, Poplar Street from Alder to Colville, and Palouse Street from Birch to the alley south of Mill Creek.  The three traffic signals at the intersections of Alder/Park, Alder/Palouse, and Poplar/Palouse, will be removed and replaced with roundabouts.  Other improvements include replacing water, sewer, and storm systems, adding bicycle lanes, street lighting, and pedestrian accessibility and safety improvements.

Project Schedule

The project is now complete and fully open to traffic.  A one-year warranty exists, and any deficiencies discovered during the one-year warranty period will be remedied by the contractor.

How will this project be funded?

  • $2.7 million – Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) grant
  • $2.1 million – City of Walla Walla, Transportation Benefit District
  • $2.0 million – City of Walla Walla, Infrastructure Repair and Replacement Program (IRRP)
  • $630,000 – City of Walla Walla Water Utility
  • $325,000 – Real Estate Excise Tax
  • $130,000 – City of Walla Walla Wastewater Utility
  • $80,000 – City of Walla Walla Stormwater Utility

Total Estimated Project Cost = $8.0 million
